We’re Sheet Harbour Radio, Your Community Radio Station.
Sheet Harbour Radio has been “On Air” since June 15, 2016. Our team is comprised of Students at Duncan Macmillan High School, as well as a few University Students and a few adults who all volunteer their time. For more information on our team, check out the bio page.
We broadcast music, announcements that are of interest to the community such as road conditions and school closures, interviews with community leaders, local artists, political figures and more. We invite local groups to contribute to our programming and generate podcasts created by local businesses.
Our target audience is those in the Sheet Harbour area but we have listeners in countries all over the world. We can engage these listeners because we are Internet based.
We broadcast 16 hours a day, seven days a week, year round. We can be heard around the world at http://sheetharbour.airtime.pro/ on computers, smartphone, tablets, almost any device that connects to the Internet.
Sheet Harbour Radio was granted a Low Power FM Community Radio License 4 years ago, so listeners in the Sheet Harbour area can listen to us on 94.7 FM
The objectives of Sheet Harbour Radio can be summed up in a few points:
-
- We want to provide entertainment that suits everyone. That’s why we play all sorts of music.
-
- We record and present interviews that we feel have an importance to the community
-
- We broadcast programs created by businesses and individuals from the area, such as Coastal Café produced by Tangier Lobster.
- Our objective with our staff is to teach things they may not get enough of in school. Such things as commitment, responsibility, working with others in teams, proper radio etiquette, fiscal responsibility, technical expertise, computer skills and more.
Thus far we have received a grant from Age-Friendly Communities as well as funds from David Hendsbee’s discretionary accoun, and perhaps most notably from Halifax Regional Community Grants. Individuals have also made contributions through GoFundMe and direct donations to the station. We have held one successful fundraiser at a Canada Day Party.
We participate in many community events such as the Seaside Festival Parade and the Tree Lighting at Christmas time.
We welcome community input and are currently looking for new members to join us. If you have a question, concern, would like to provide you input or if you would like to join our team; Contact Us.
